Christocentric

A Christocentric approach to the Bible emphasizes interpreting and understanding scripture with Jesus Christ at the center.
Here are several key verses that illustrate a Christocentric perspective, along with explanations:

1.John 1:1-14

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. […] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

This passage identifies Jesus (the Word) as both divine and incarnate. It emphasizes that Christ is central to God’s revelation and His presence among humanity.

2.Colossians 1:15-20

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. […] For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”

This passage underscores the preeminence of Christ in creation and redemption. It highlights that everything was created through and for Christ and that reconciliation with God is achieved through His sacrifice.

3.Hebrews 1:1-3

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.”

This passage points out that God’s ultimate revelation comes through His Son, Jesus Christ. It affirms that Christ reflects God’s glory and sustains all creation.

4.John 14:6

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

Jesus explicitly claims that He is the only way to God the Father, emphasizing His central role in salvation and the path to eternal life.

5.Philippians 2:5-11

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. […] Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

This passage highlights Christ’s humility and obedience, leading to His exaltation by God. It shows that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are central to God’s plan and deserving of worship.

6.Luke 24:27

“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”

After His resurrection, Jesus explains to His disciples that the entire Old Testament points to Him. This reinforces the idea that all scripture ultimately centers on Christ.

These verses collectively affirm the central role of Jesus Christ in creation, revelation, salvation, and worship according to the Bible. They support a Christocentric approach to scripture interpretation.
